Original to c.1880, this Victorian ring is such a unique and playful piece. We absolutely love the checkerboard design of alternating natural blue sapphires and cushion old mine-cut diamonds.
The ring takes the form of a rectangular panel that offers a wonderful spread of stones across the finger. Set with nine blue sapphires with cushion mixed-cuts, each with its subtle nuances in tone and shade which make this ring all the more lovable. The sapphires have a lovely midnight blue hue which looks perfect next to the bright white diamonds, as though they were stars against a clear nights sky.
Interspersed with nine cushion shaped old mine-cut diamonds each with their own characterful sparkle and charmingly irregular distribution of facets. Its these qualities of hand-cut diamonds which give them their soft and romantic glow for which they are so loved.
The stones are grain-set in open-back settings and bordered by polished edges. The shoulders of this ring are just as fine as the head and we absolutely love how dramatic they are! Carved as acanthus leaf-style terminals which ornately curl at the ends of each leaf, they add such a quintessentially Victorian detail. The gallery is refined and rather simple with pierced detail that well compliments the checkerboard arrangement of the gemstones. The band is a solid D-shape shank in 18ct yellow gold and features decorative ridged detail which has been hand engraved.
Excellent: all stones are secure and well set, with no damage to the mount. Professionally polished and carefully inspected by our workshop, ready to wear and enjoy.
Unless stated otherwise, gem weights and specifications are estimated (assessed in mount).
