Hallmarked to Chester, c.1912, this Edwardian era gypsy ring is the sweetest. Gypsy rings such as this one became popular during the late Victorian period and continued to be so until the war, when precious metals became scarce and appetite for luxury had disappeared. The gypsy ring gets its name from the style of setting shown here - the star setting. This ring features three tiny single-cut diamonds, each set within an engraved star setting which sits in-flush with the 18ct yellow gold band.
When the war commenced just two years later, vast numbers of gold bands such as this one were melted down to help fund the war-effort. This process repeated itself again during WWII. To have this ring survive in its original form is both special and rare.
Chunky yet understated, this ring strikes the perfect balance between beauty and versatility. It would make a wonderful addition to a stack, a distinctive choice for a wedding band, or can be worn alone as a meaningful piece to be worn and adored every day!
Unless stated otherwise, gem weights and specifications are estimated (assessed in mount).
